About the Practitioner

Mara Tingley, BS, AAS, CVT, LMT

Mara is a North Carolina native but has lived in Colorado since 2009. After graduating from Vanderbilt University with a BS in Psychology, Mara utilized her degree working as a Therapeutic Horseback Riding Instructor for children with mental health issues and traumatic family histories at a school in Massachusetts. She was consistently amazed by the resiliency of her students and the positive impact that the animals had on them.

While in Massachusetts, Mara attended the Bancroft School of Massage Therapy in Worcester. There she completed the 13 month, 700+ hour human massage program as well as the Small Animal Massage Program which included extensive academic coursework, hands on practice and instruction as well as internship hour requirements.  Mara returned home to North Carolina to work primarily as a human massage therapist (with a few canine clients!) for nearly two years.

Fascinated and motivated by her studies and work with animals, Mara then moved to Colorado to attend the Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology in order to become a Veterinary Nurse. Mara completed the program in 17 months while continuing to work as a massage therapist. She then began working in a large emergency and specialty clinic in the Denver area for over two years, spending much of her time there as an anesthesia/surgery nurse. After the birth of her son, Mara was looking for a change of pace and eventually joined the team at Park Hill Veterinary Medical Center where she has now been a nurse for over two years. Recently, Mara began working with the Colorado School of Animal Massage as an instructor for the practitioner level course.

In providing and teaching animal massage, Mara hopes to improve the quality of life for animals in the Denver area while helping to educate pet owners and animal lovers about the benefits of massage.
